Situation: We want to create a quick prototype to try and lay out a style we want to go for with this game.
Task: I need to crop and position the assets in a way that fits what we're trying to achieve with our game.
Action: I crop out all the buttons and menus we need from the assets for use throughout the project, then I position the buttons and create the game scene, the settings menu, and the main menu, also deciding the layout of the menu and what settings I should use for the font.
Result: I think that I've created a good standard for what our app will look like going forwards.
Situation: As a group we want to make it so that you can make milkshakes and hand them to the customer to make money.
Task: I need to make buttons that let you change the type of milkshake you have and allow the customer script to detect that.
Action: I made a script with an array of sprites that contain the 4 milkshake flavours, I made 4 methods to change between each sprite and assign a milkshakeID along with the sprite, each button calls a different method.
Result: The milkshakes switch when you click on each button, and the customer detects it is the correct milkshake when you hand it in.
Marco created new button sprites for us to use because he thought the old buttons didn't fit the style. He replaced our old buttons with these new ones, but missed some so I helped by replacing all the ones he missed.
Situation: We need to update the assets as Marco doesn't feel like the current ones match the style of the game correctly.
Task: We need to update all the buttons to be in the style of the new ones Marco made.
Action: Marco changed most of the buttons himself, but missed some so I changed all of the old buttons I found to the new style of buttons.
Result: All buttons have been updated.
Situation: We need to add music/sound effects, with a volume manager and save settings along with the volume manager, we also need to start getting survey results from play testers.
Task: I need to give access to play testers and hand out surveys to them.
Action: I asked around for people who wanted to play test, and found about 10 people.
Result: We are getting good constant feedback.
Situation: We need to add levels, shaking functionality to make use of mobile features, listen to player surveys, demonstrate a way we could make use of in-app purchases to make money, we also need to add toppings that the player can choose from.
Task: I need to shaking, add some QoL our play testers asked for, toppings, and in-app purchases.
Action: I added shaking, you need to shake your phone 3 times for it to register, or if shaking is disabled you press a button to mix the milkshake, the playtesters asked for some QoL about quitting mid-game, having an endscreen to see your score when the game ends, and being able to finish early once you reach your goal. I added all of these as they are quick easy features. I added toppings which basically follows the same script as the milkshake ingredients, then I used the toppings as our in-app purchases.
Result: I think the shaking and toppings along with the QoL really benefitted the game as it is way more fun to play now than it was before adding all these features.
